Who is LaToya?
LaToya Winslow is a born creative. Her feet started in the sandy water of the NC Coast, to a young mother and raised with the help of her subsistence-farming Great-Grandparents. Writing was and continues to be a foundation of how she processes the world around her and her smart mouth eventually worked in her favor when it came to wordsmithing. Over time this creative energy branched into creative consulting, digital visual arts, and journal publishing.
Earning a BA in English built upon her foundation of personal poetry and creative writing. While that hard-earned love of words was never lost, it transformed into how she interacted in a creative consulting capacity. Idea generation and consulting was a natural development of her ability to wordsmith and ease of supporting others through their business, personal, or creative endeavors. A new interest in digital design has merged with her history of writing via her imprint, Mane Curl Press, where she creates the interior and covers of journals. Over the past 2 years, she has educated herself in various techniques of digital design and finds the research needed and creativity of the craft to be vital. Especially in light of the turmoil of the Covid-19 pandemic. May 6- June 2, she was a GROW Resident at the GSO Cultural Arts Center via Creative Greensboro, the city's arts and cultural organization at 2nd floor, 200 N. Davie St. https://www.winslowconsultant.com/grow-residency
The currents are bringing her toward a creative shore that is full of new endeavors. Taking inspiration from current events, Black Southern historical traditions, and methodologies to support mental health all have inspired her artistic direction. She is looking forward to making new connections with fellow artists, creatives, and art lovers!
